2 Different Methods of Point Cloud Classification For Dtm Creation and Their Affect On The Amount of Forest Road Earthwork

Forest roads are permanent forest infrastructure that enables modern and sustainable forestry to fulfill all management goals in a timely and optimal manner. Optimum execution of management goals is extremely important in today's challenging and changing conditions. One such condition is a bark beetle attack, that is, the salvage logging that follows the attack. Increasing forest road accessibility of such areas makes it easier to carry out intensive silviculture work that follows the rehabilitation of the infected area. This research analyzed the usability of digital terrain models when designing forest roads in an area where salvage logging was carried out. The salvage logging in the study area was performed in 2017 after a bark-beetle (Ips typographus) out-break. In this study, digital terrain models (DTMs) were generated based on georeferenced aerial photographs taken by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). When photogrammetric processing was carried out in Pix4d software (v.4.8.4), automatic and manual point cloud classification was used. The generated DTMs were used during the further design phase in the RoadEng10 software. Horizontally and vertically identically routes of forest roads on each of the generated DTM were designed and the quantities required for the road substructure construction for each profile were computed. The calculated earthwork volumes were used in further statistical analyses.
